+ Vertigo & Dizziness
- Dizziness is a general term used to express various sensations such as unsteadiness, lightheadedness, and disorientation.
- Disequilibrium describes a general unsteadiness, imbalance or loss of equilibrium.
- Vertigo is a condition that creates a feeling that your surroundings are spinning.
Dizziness and vertigo are common and can impact how you feel, think, and perform daily activities. Our physical therapists can help you through education and prescribing vestibular exercises to improve your balance and reduce problems caused by dizziness and vertigo.
+ Post-Concussion
A head injury can result in abnormal vestibular system functioning that causes headache, blurry vision, nausea, balance problems, and dizziness. These symptoms can begin soon after the concussion injury and may persist if not treated. Starting physical therapy soon after a concussion can help you to safely return to an active lifestyle. Our physical therapists can help you recover in several ways, including:
- Neck rehabilitation
- Regain balance
- Treat and prevent dizziness
- Improve vision
+ Cervicogenic Headaches & Dizziness
Whiplash, arthritis, slipped disks, strained muscles, and other causes of neck problems can create a pain that you perceive as a headache. Other symptoms such as severe neck pain, dizziness, or vertigo may accompany these headaches, known as cervicogenic headaches. Disturbance of the vestibular system can contribute to the symptoms and make diagnosis more difficult. Our physical therapists can help provide an accurate diagnosis of your headache and prescribe treatments that address both your neck pain and vestibular problems.
+ BBPV
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BBPV) is an inner ear condition that affects the vestibular system and typically causes dizziness and vertigo. Most frequently, BPPV is described as an intense spinning sensation that is brought on by a change in head position (i.e., looking up, rolling over in bed, or bending over). These intense episodes are often followed by a residual feeling of dizziness, imbalance or disequilibrium. Occasionally, symptoms can resolve on their own but many experience symptoms on and off for weeks to months. With a proper evaluation, our physical therapists are able to determine the specific exercises needed to treat the dysfunction in your inner ear and return to normal function.
